“In the past 10 years many new club nights have started up and there’s a very strong culture of resident DJs in the city. Twitch is now honestly one of the best small club nights in Europe. Their lineups are always totally on point, bringing a mixture of relatively fresh faces, and heavyweights like Ben UFO and Levon Vincent playing intense smaller crowds of 500 people. Housed in the same venue as Shine’s Bunatee Bar, with a big system, low ceilings and often all night long sets, the crowd are always very open, giving DJs the chance to go left into experimental waters, and know that they can take people on a journey.”

Twitch was formed in 2006 when Chris, Phil and Paddy met when djing in a field in Armagh at a small festival called Home Made Jam.

The first Twitch event took place in The Big Easy (formerly Larry’s Piano Bar and now Harlem Cafe) shortly afterwards and after just 1 event moved to the upstairs of Laverys. During 2 years at Laverys the focus was mainly on residents parties along with local dj’s. Towards the end of the 2 year stint in Laverys, Twitch began booking international guest artists to play with Marc Ashken, Perc, Kevin Gorman and Tadeo all playing the night.

In 2008 the opportunity came to move to The Stiff Kitten and Twitch remained there for 2 years, this presented the chance to book bigger guests with artists such as Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, The Wighnomy Brothers, Ben Sims, Derrick Carter, Efdemin and more all playing Twitch events. Along with the Stiff Kitten residency came the chance to play at Shine events hosting a room in Shine on a number of occasions and also warming up in the main room.

In 2010 Twitch moved on in order to take back full creative control of the night again and this has seen a host of top international artists play in the Bunatee Bar in Queen’s University Students’ Union.

Twitch resident Chris moved to Australia and Matt joined the night, Matt had previously played with Phil in the Menagerie and musically he was a perfect fit for the night in their new home at Queen’s.

Artists such as Paul Woolford, Steffi, Virginia, Levon Vincent and Soundstream have claimed that Twitch parties were some of the best parties they had played at.

Whether it’s the low ceilings and dark lighting of the Bunatee or the cleverly adapted use of the Mandela Hall, Twitch parties are some of the best Belfast has to offer and the music policy is on a par with some of the best clubs in the world with Panorama Bar/ Berghain residents (Steffi, Virginia, Soundstream, Tama Sumo) and world famous clubs and label parties (Mister Saturday Night, Hessle Audio, Extended Play) regularly appearing at the night.

Current Twitch residents Phil, Matt and Paddy maintain a balance between keeping the dancefloor happy and providing a range of sounds and styles to provide warmup sets for a host of world famous dj’s and producers with a variety of sounds from Joy Orbison to Shed and Pangea to Motor City Drum Ensemble.

At 8 years of age Twitch has become one of the longest running dance music events in Belfast and continues it’s task of providing the people of Belfast with quality house, techno, disco and beyond with regular local events featuring the best of local and international DJ’s.

Going forward expect the return of some of our favourite guests, some exciting new guests and more great parties!
